So the wedding season is here in Ibiza…
As well as offering my own photography services I also lend a hand with setting up some ceremonies with Candy at www.whateveribiza.com. So far she has 25 events to squeeze into the next 4 months so every weekend is a frenzy of white covered activity for her, not to mention all the time she spends with every client getting everything arranged in advance for the day.
Last Sat (30may) was a lovely simple ceremony on Cala Codoloar Beach. [SinglePic not found] I have to say it was slightly bizaar to set up a complete wedding amongst a load of people enjoying a day at the beach, who all quite rightly think we’re mad! So once we’d arrived in a mist of dust and sand, there we were balancing on our tip toes whilst the wind whistled around us, trying to coax a very unco-operative canopy into place atop the wedding gazeebo.
All the while we were being observed by some very curious tourists who probably don’t see a wedding unfold before their eyes every day. Attending the ceremony were 45 Dutch people who all needed to be seated upon decorated chairs and all of whom also needed to be served with Sangria and aperitifs, normally not a problem, but when your reception is perched on a cliff top, everything becomes a challenge! In the end the staff had to load up a pick up truck and drive the delicate cargo round to the beach. The track leading down there is like something out of an Indiana Jones movie, so this was no mean feat. In the end everyone was sorted out and they then awaited the bride… She was also poised to descend down from the restaurant along steps and a precarious semi hidden path…It being a public beach, us photographers were then treated to loads of false alarms as unwitting members of the public came sauntering out from behind the rock…where was the bride?? Eventually she emerged, teetering along on her heels, and looked lovely!
As the couple themselves were Dutch they wanted a Dutch host for their ceremony. So step in Eva, full time receptionist by day, part time priestess any other time! It was her first outing as a host so she was really nervous and made us promise we wouldn’t look at her during her speech for fear of mucking it up…! In the end it went really well and the couple were really happy. They had their reception in Amarant which, perched on the cliff top offers an unrivalled vista of a beautiful spot…
